update

been awhile..
alot of things happened past few months (or a month I dont rememba)

hmm... I got two new mice from a breeder,
they are orange n curly haired ones.. :) one is with solid black eyes (my other mice are all browny black), and another one without a tail and very light red eyes. :) so cute!
I named them Mango and Peach. haha
I will put photos on later when Im not busy...

oh and Harold is .......pregnant again. Well. it's a long story.. to.. put it in a nutshell....
Harold didnt like new girls and was biting Mango (she bleed and now has a difficulty to move around with her left leg) so I took Harold out, and put her in another cage where Kumar stays. But of course I divided the cage into two with a lot of cardboard and plastics!!
but one night, I heard a mouse screaming.. and .. err..
I guess Harold was horny on that night. She managed to go where Kumar is and mated with him again. sigh.

14 babies are very healthy ! :)
they opened their eyes about 3-4days ago and love running around inside the cage.
Im thinking of keeping 2-3 female mice and get a smaller cage for Kumar.
Kumar's been stayng alone in the cage, and Im planning to put him in a smaller one and
the one I have right now for my female mice.
I made some toys last night just for Kumar, and he seems to like them a lot :D
I feel so bad for not paying attention to Kumar ( I was so OBSSESSED with babies past few weeks)..but dont worry Kumar! I love you the most! xD

well, I have three kinds of mice:
White/black marks - black eyes
white/brown marks- reddish black eyes
white/light grey marks - red eyes

I can kinda guess how Harold and Kumar's mum and dad look like by just looking at those little babies. :P Im pretty sure either Harold's mum or dad had red eyes (since Harold has got this exotic reddish black eyes).

Anyway.. I will put more photos later...

Harold and Kumar can not stay in the same cage anymore..
I called two vet hospitals and none of them perform desexing operation.. .. *sigh
one of them actually CAN desex my mouse(especially Kumar), but it's quite risky.. and COST A FORTUNE! $200AUS. man.. oh well.
how am I gonna get another cage?! omg this is the major problem.. I dont wanna sell Harold and Kumar coz they both are my first fancy mice pets.. and... u can't always gaurantee they will find the nice homes?.. same as baby mice too.. I feel like keeping them all, but...

Anyway..
my 6 days old baby mice are now vividly getting bigger. :) I can see their patterns now. Majority of them are black and white. :) so cute!! one has got this "heart shape" on his/her bum. xD
and one looks like cow pattern, nother has this black dot on his/her right side of face.. can't wait to see them running around the cage!!

Another quick update! :)
couldnt sleep again, so yar.. watched 3 movies in a row. it was fun tho. :)
Anywhooo..
I heard squeaking sounds from the cage around 6ish and I saw Harold re-making(or tidying up) the nest.. and I got to check the babies out again! woohoo! I couldn't believe my eyes! I saw their eyes, little tails and tiny feet... incredible!!
I still couldn't count them all! :( but I think I will open the lid and check the babies out(but wont touch!) today when Harold is outside eating. (CAN"T WAIT!) meh.

just a quick update on Harold and Kumar. :)
Harold's been sleeping in that tunnel for whole day.. doesnt eat much either..
I wanna check the babies out but there is no more gap in the nest.. :( I wonder babies are alright.
Im thinking of giving Harold milk, but im not sure if she will drink it.. I mean as in "fat-milk".

it's been awhile.. oh well.. I have big news...
yes I was right. Harold was a female mouse.. She mated with Kumar and got pregnant..
she gave a birth this morning (or last night not sure).. :)
luckly I managed to have a quick peek at new born babies in the nest.. :) THey are so tiny!
Im not quite sure how many there are.. and I won't touch them til next week. I just want to make sure Harold looks after her babies without any disturb. :)



I took this photo 2-3 days before her constraction.. She didnt move at all in the wheel for such a long time. So I brought a plastic box from my boyfriend and separated her from Kumar. I put bunch of tissue papers and nesting materials inside the box so she can make a nice nest out of them. oh, and I put the look out tower room too.. as I expected, she made a nice nest inside and gave a birth. :)


I can't wait to touch the new baby mice! :D Im sure there are more than 5... I thought I would never be able to have a look at the new babies because Harold made such a nice nest inside the look-out-tower room. But there was a gap at the corner where u could actually look inside? I dont know if she purposely did it for me or not, but yeah.. it was so easy for me to just look at them and OMG ... I dont know how to describe this feeling but ... it made me so happy :)

Im going to put an ad on the site soon.. Im wanna make sure everyone gets adopted to nice homes.. for that I have a plan..

I feel so bad for not leting Harold and Kumar stay together anymore.. oh well.. for that I need another cage.. shitness. Im so brokeeee.. :(

I couldn't believe my eyes! it was ab 3am .. and I just glanced at the cage just to see if Harold and Kumar were awake.. and I saw them sleeping together like this in the look-out-tower.. haha
I never seen them sleeping there like this- i mean i've seen them sleeping up there but with full of tissues around them!
it was just empty.. I think it was a bit warmer coz of the desk lamp behind it?... haha

Making the documentary on cleaning the mice cage

Today I spent 4hrs in filming..... the mice cage!!! haha
that's for documentary class.. I need to show "the process" in 4 mins documentary.. and I decided to fillm the "process of cleaning the mice cage!"
Wow.. Didnt realise filming would take so long...!! Im gonna have to start editing from Monday since school closes on weekends.
Anyway.. I will put it up once Im done with editing.. :)
I just wish this wasn't an individual project.. I found it so hard to frame the cage+my self cleaning and all... yah.. Im not really satisfied with the videos I took.. but I have no choice! :(

Anyway.. I took some photos of Harold and Kumar.. hehe.. cutes ever.. xD
oh... and I wont be seeing them for a week... coz there will be a house inspection from Monday.. they said it would take for a week.. SO yar.. I asked one of my friends to look after them..

I think the best way to tame your pet mice is... to cuddle them as much as you can.. and interact with them as much as you can.. (talking, or give them treats)

I hope my boyfriend gets a car soon.. then he can drive me to the vet hospital...they will be able to tell if they are both male or not.. but according to my research... Harold is definetely female.. then... I might have to desex one of them... it's gonna be costy ...

shopping for my mice

Today I went shopping for Harold and Kumar.. There are only two pet shop in Belconnen area (the one in Westfield and one at Belconnen market) and went both of them. I ended up spending 80$ for what I NEEDED/WANTED for my babies.. ;_ ; Here are things I bought today:

(They come in 3 different colours: yellow, blue and purple). The size was little bit bigger than I expected . I absolutely love it !! :D I put some compressed wood shavings and soft tissues inside, and Kumar was sleeping inside.. it was soooooooo cuteeeeeeeee xD xD ( I will upload the piccys when I get them)

Kumar and Harold had free run for half and hour while mum is cleaning their cage! :D It was little bit hard to clean their poops and pees inside the ball.. but it was entertaining to watch them running in my room. :)

my mice

okay...
I've decided to use this blog as "pet mice diary". I see a lot of informations on mice/rats in general, and of course it was helpful.. but what I really wanted was the info from mice owners' ...(with pictures and all) So yes. Here I am... about to begin my mice diary.. :)

I got two male fancy mice about 3 days ago at the pet shop... :) each one cost only 9.99$AUD (was reasonable price for me) but the cage was HooA!.. it was costy!! I paid 89.00$AUD for this model called "Tasmania Home" from S.A.M.. When I checked the price on line it cost only approx 32$(this brand is from U.S).. it must be shipping that cost hella a lot. :( what else did I buy... oh I bought this compressed wood shavings and a pack of muesli for my mice.. Total cost me approx 120$AUD..


I named my mice "Harold and Kumar" (HAHA). that was actually boyfriend's idea.. :P
Anyway..
Harold(white one) liked to be played but Kumar(Black one) was quite shy of me. so whenever I opened the lid to give them some food, Harold was the one who was willing to climb up to my hand and Kumar always ran into the wheel (and he knows I can't reach there). And i hated that feeling (of seeing Kumar running away from me) so me and my boyfriend decided to take them out of the cage and put them into an empty box.. just to interact with them a bit. (ANd those are the photos)

I spend about 15 mins just playing around with them with my two hands. IT FELT SO GOOODDD I never touched mice before and they are so tiny and warm!!! xD (supre cute too!) I did the same thing next day for few times and now they dont get scared of me. :)

mice needs a lot of toys... so I made some Homemade toys for my Harold and Kumar :) and they absolutely loved it! They are fun to watch for sure.. :)

if you have bear bottle holder like the one in the middle, give it to them! I LOVE it !! :) somtimes Harold sleeps inside ... :) I dont know if you can see them or not, but I made the little house made out of cardboard with alots of holes (so the mice can access anywhere they want) and made another little house out of egg carton. :) I bought that orange stuff (on the left side)... though they'd like it but hmm... they just touch it for few times , never play with it. :| (wasted 2bucks). ALso I bought little balls (the blue one in front of bear bottle holder) for them but... (another -2$ wasted). oh well.. I've never had mice before !!! im still learning! :P
yeah.. make sure you make a lot of toys.. they are active in midnight so u wanna make sure there are plenty of toys in the cage.. (otherwise mice will get bored and try to go out of the cage).
